About
Jason Alan Dewey was born in 1990 in Lincolnshire, and after a childhood of performing, now studies composition at Birmingham Conservatoire with Robin Grant. He has also had lessons with Howard Skempton, Errollyn Wallen, and John Woolrich.
Taking cues from Serialism, he is currently exploring chance music, systems and noise as music. His music tends to be conceptual, usually exploring the more avant-garde areas of music. He is inspired by composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich and Louis Andriessen, including more romantic composers such as Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ravel and Vaughan Williams. For pleasure, he enjoys listening to film soundtracks, lush concertos and keyboard music.
Recent works include a conceptual series based on the idea of recycling old sheet music to provide new sounds; several electronic pieces (available on his blog) and a string quartet written by chance.
