This original tone poem, for violin and piano, was recorded in Dec. 2000. Orpheus is allegorized as a Christ-figure whose musical ability redeems respondents from the Satanic Sirens’ seducing influence. To explore the potency of these conflicting symbols, deepen my personal connections to this myth, and urge a modern audience towards increased spiritual consciousness and optimism, I have composed a tone poem in a musical attempt to represent humanity’s life journey—pitted between the despairing, treacherous voices of the Sirens and the redeeming, divine music of Orpheus.
