A little something inspired by the movie Blue Valentine...

    Blue Valentines

She smiles but the strain tugs the corner of her eyes
She lies and denies, saying everything's fine
Her love has assumed a desperate tinge
Her focus narrowed to a gold wedding ring

He chafes at the bonds that tie him to her
He smiles but the truth eats through like cancer
His love overshadowed by the fork in their paths
His self torn in trying to find the way past

    They love
    They laugh
But life's more complex and harder to get past
    They fight
    They cry
And each feels the other one's truth as a lie

He's falling asleep as she starts to wake
She battles with friends for her dream's sake
She grits her teeth when he’s lost in his bliss
But the bitterness seeps through into their kiss

He tries to stay present, he's losing sleep
And the thought of the children brings him to his knees
He's fighting to bridge the two halves of his soul
One half his love, but the other makes him whole

There's no easy answer in the game of women and men
No ready cure for the injuries that begin
Sometimes love’s not the answer it's the knotted rope
That must unravel to reach through to hope

    They love
    They laugh
But life's more complex and harder to get past
    They fight
    They cry
And each feels the other one's truth as a lie

Yes, each feels the other one's truth as a lie
