I put the best songs next to each other and make them play nicely together. I grew up in a musical household - my Dad is legendary Chicago jazz bassist Dan Shapera and my brother is a brilliant avant-garde jazz drummer, while my mother's musical tastes spanned the centuries from late Rococo through the Romantics and Moderns. My family's influence on my musical tastes and encouragement to explore genres broadened my horizons and exploded my musical lexicon. Once I discovered Wendy Carlos, Perrey and Kingsley, and every electronic artist of the 1980s, I went crazy for electronic beats and bleeps, and experiencing the electronic dance music community during 1994-1995 as a club kid in Los Angeles inspired me even more wildly. Joining the chatroom army of the Ideal ClubWorld in 2010 and 2011 connected me to musical performance and production heroes like the genre-boundary-annihilating The Young Punx and gave me a gateway to tremendous learning, and in 2012, Chicago house and hardcore DJs Jeffito and Bad Corey took a chance on me and gave me a gig in a great lineup of inspiring room-exploders including the very excellent party weapon KedZie and so many more besides. Now I spin Turbo-Funk, Electro-House, Progressive House, Big Beat, Lounge-Core and piles of made-up-sounding-and-probably-made-up sub-genre names like that. Turning away from Top 40 and toward the underground has made all the difference in the boom I bring to the room, and I can't wait to make you jump around!
