Piss and Rust is a newer song and this is a live acoustic version of it. We’ve also recorded an electrified version to be released as a single with a B-side as part of a batch of singles coming soon.

It’s in a slightly altered tuning that gives it a bit of urgency or menace which I think suits the feel of the city that it’s partly about surviving in. The lyrics came together on city walks and the rust and piss of the title bubbled to the surface of my brain as elemental emblems to the life of certain parts of the place. There’s also a play on the phrase ‘piss and vinegar’ describing a certain attitude and approach to life along with more shadowy suggestions of entropy and time marching past (perhaps echoing Neil Young’s phrase about rust never sleeping.) There’s anger and resignation mixed together in this song about the relativity of my own and other people’s values as well as my usual preoccupations with what freedom can be and existence within and outside of laws or beliefs laid down by others.
