With one hand scribbling lyrics onto the back of a roadmap, and the other held aloft to thumb down a ride, London born singer-songwriter James Riley is a troubadour of the kind many thought no longer exist. Fusing influences from the guitar-led songcraft of John Martyn, the swooning strings of Bill Withers and the jubilant abandon of Springsteen, 2013 saw James and his “9-piece bluegrass and soul explosion” released their debut EP “Lay Me Down” to a enthusiastic reception and a national tour to boot. Two festival-packed summers on from the band’s formation, 2014 will see The James Riley Band releasing a new EP and taking their sound back to its roots, with US tour dates in the pipeline springtime.
