I have been writing meditative Christian music for over twelve years. It all began when I had been leading a small prayers group that sung music from the Taize community. That was a time of spiritual renewal for me. I began to meditate and pray more deeply, and after about two years these contemplative songs just started to emerge unexpectedly. The songs were simple, meditative songs much like those from Taize.
Over the years I have continued to write and develop my skills. I have also spend five years studying at Columbia Theological Seminary on a part-time basis. The pace of my music writing slowed while I was in seminary, but I was gaining a theological depth that I now bring to my music. I thought I wanted to go into ministry, but have since changed my mind. Since leaving seminary and the ministerial path my energy has returned to writing music. I am developing new skills as I work on arranging and recording my music. SoundCloud has become a sort of repository for my ongoing work.
My desire is to share my music widely with churches and individuals. I release it under Creative Commons License to give people free access to this music. I want people to use this music in a variety of settings. Sheet music is available for most pieces upon request. See my blog at AfterMyOwnHeart.blogspot.com. Videos also available at YouTube.com/user/JHildenMinton.
I hope my music is a blessing to you.
