2011 was a breakthrough year for Smoove & Turrell. The Geordie duo had two singles playlisted by Radio 2 in the UK and Slow Down was playlisted by radio stations across Europe, leading to a European tour and a whole slew of festival performances for their live band.
Now with a February homecoming gig at The Sage in Newcastle already sold out and a much anticipated London show at Floridita on the books, the boys prepare to make 2012 even bigger by unleashing two of the biggest numbers from their Eccentric Audio album alongside some killer remixes.
Slow Down sees John deliver a powerful vocal that evokes the ratpack at their height (assuming Frank, Dean & the boys had lived through acid house and a youth growing up in the North east that is) and In Deep is a dark and melancholy story of life lived too fast.
Slow Down has already racked up close to 200,000 plays for the video across the various channels of the boys label Jalapeno and their licensees in Europe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJSZ9lBXczk and is consistently one of the biggest tracks from their live show.
In Deep is dubby disco of the highest quality co-written with band member Dave Wilde and with remixes courtesy of label mates Kraak & Smaak (whose last single Let’s Go Back was in Mixmag & DJ Mag’s singles of the year) Germany’s DJ Friction - who delivers a superb boogie down remix and Tru Thoughts artist Diesler who delivers a left of centre latin take on the classy vocal.
