JAHAI is an established Cascadian metal band whose name takes on many forms in the Old World. In Malaysia, the JAHAI are a tribe of shamanistic headhunters. In Laotian, JAHAI means “Angered Soul”. To rhythm guitarist Nikk Jahai, it means a blood brother bond that will never break. “We’ve been to hell and back and managed to stay together for ten years, nothing is stopping us now.”
JAHAI is based on a deeper soul than the average band. Everything is a milestone in their continuously expanding timeline. Nikk teamed up with his brother and drummer, Jon, to form JAHAI in 2002; bassist Loyd Abbott was inducted in 2006 and lead guitarist Jacob Wilde was enlisted in late 2011. The band became unified with the addition of vocalist Aub Driver in mid 2012 and has rocketed to the top of the local charts.
Musically speaking, JAHAI creates “melodic chaos” through focused “metal meditation”. These contradicting phrases have helped mold sweeping songscapes ranging from no-holds-barred groove metal to raptorial anthems that would delight even the most casual listener.
Having shared the stage with such notable genre acts as Killswitch Engage, Powerman 5000, 36 Crazyfists, Skinlab, Machine Head and Rob Zombie – JAHAI are no strangers to the road. This seasoned Northwest act crafts an awe-inspiring relentless live show for concert-attending patrons, who very often become loyal fans.
The band’s grassroots and DIY attitude allows JAHAI to carve it’s own future, taking to constant regional touring and personalized online promotion. Driver, the band’s singer and latest addition explains, “We all have to be part of the constantly evolving conversation that has become music as we know it. That’s the day and age we live in, listening to and appreciating our fan base.”
The Portland-based quintet is headed to the studio in late 2012, early 2013 to record their breakout EP.
"JAHAI is a sonic assault of aggressive metal that delivers a full facial of melodic chaos!" – Crave
