Danish, Berlin-based producer, singer and Dj Jacob Phono was growing up in a small town in northern Denmark with not much happening around him, he put much focus into music. At the age of thirteen he started playing the drums and through his teens he played live music in many different bands and experimented on different instruments. He later studied sound engineering, leading to a career within music, film and theater.
Dj'ing his way through the Berlin scene, he has been collaborating with numerous clubs and artists and hosted various parties – always with a profound love for the dancefloor. Jacob has also played at infamous clubs such as Berghain/Panoramabar, Club Der Visionaere, Tresor, Sisyphos and is a resident Dj at Katerholzig. His Dj style is inspired by the morning-after club atmosphere, and his sound plays around with noisy ambient soundscapes, transcendental disco-techno, edgy dynamics and intelligent sexy “four on the floor”-grooves.
Over the last few years, as a result of his Berlin recidency, he has been working with artists such as Subb-an, Tom Clark, Jens Bond and Miro Pajic. With releases on several european labels like Cocoon Recordings, Highgrade Records, Upon You, Cityfox, Plastic City, Fantastic Friends Audiomatique, and American labels like Thoughtless Music and Nuwax, he is surely making his mark as a producer. His productions differ a lot as he likes to experiment, expressing different feelings and genres within a deep, groovy bass line. He has always been inspired by The Doors, old Disco in the style of Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone, 80s melancholic synth pop music like Depeche Mode and Sono, as well as late 90s names like Underworld.
