Also the third track on the CD Papyrus Nugator, “He Was a Poet and When He Died” is a short film directed and written by poet/writer Mark Saba. I wrote the soundtrack early-on in the film’s making, and Mark wanted to have the music and film cross-pollinate each other. Its pretty unusual to have a director tell you that they are willing to change edits and timings to match your this one was very special. Not to mention Mark is a very close friend of mine, so I really enjoyed working on it with him. The first sound you will hear is that of a “prepared” trumpet being performed by Joseph Drew.

I asked him to remove the crooks in his horn so that it would create an unstable sound, not unlike the sound of the very first trumpet, or the herald of the heavens. The other sounds used in the score are those of actual wood being cut, sawed and dropped- as well as a tree falling. There are strains of Gesualdo as well in this haunting surreal sound-world.
    Thanks for listening!!!
