‘"Dark Days and Nights’. What does an album title like that make you think of? Yep, us too: nothing cheerful, that’s for sure. Insect Guide’s second record is indeed quite dark, but forthcoming single ‘Down From Here’ pierces through the gloom with a melody that’s unshakeable after even one listen.

The focus soon shifts to frontwoman Su Sutton’s rather excellent voice, but the big draw is the rumbling bass line that provides the song’s hook. Complemented by driving, powerful drums from Chris Cooper, the song’s just about the most uplifting-sounding song the trio have written.

Then you get to the lyrics and are forced to have a serious rethink. ‘Your time is up… your luck is up… somebody else will take your place’. Not so happy as we thought you were, guys?
