This week's challenge was to transform the text of the instructions into sound.
My idea was to have the sound mimic the text in the same way it would be spoken, i.e., have vowels correspond to longer, more pitched sounds, and consonants correspond to plosive, noisy, or transient sounds. I took the following approach to realize this idea:
I wrote a program in SuperCollider that iterated over the instructions, one character at a time, and performed the following operations:
-if a vowel was encountered a synth was triggered (additionally each vowel corresponded to a different note)
-consonants were used to gate the amplitude of the vowel sounds creating a percussive rhythm
-spaces and periods were also mapped to the gate, but for a longer duration.
