Biography
IndySoul: DJ / Producer / Composer a.k.a. Carl Guerard is a Montreal based artist whose reputation for quality mixing, releases and remixes is one of new reference from within the House Community.

In 1985, Carl’s first involvement in music was as a bass player with local Montreal Band “New Dawn Fades”. From the post-punk enigmatic Joy Division Unknown Pleasure album, the band was rocking the Underground scene with their own unique style and replicating the 80’s alternatives hits of U2, The Cult, Joy Division, The Cure and New Order. Rehearsing at a warehouse in the west part of Montreal, the band mainly played gigs at local parties and at infamous Montreal “Grand Café” on St-Denis Street.

During the following years, along with a buddy, Carl formed a band packaging industrial sounds and melodies from Roland Emulator keyboards. They produced plaintive yet cold vocals and abstract lyrics with cutting-edge drum-machine rhythms, which was ideal for club consumption. New Order "Blue Monday" and Depeche Mode “Enjoy The Silence” were some of the covers Carl and his teammate played for the Neo-Electronic crowd.

It was in 1989 when Carl fell in love with House Music. In the early 90’s, Carl was more enjoying the music then performing as a DJ. He frequented his favorite Montreal clubs, including “Business”, Zoo Bar, Crisco and Disalvio’s and as well as NYC Club Shelter. He then acquired two Technics SL-1200 and a Pioneer Mixer, which were among the tools with which he started mixing for the first time. “My favorite vinyl’s I still spin today are: A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray and Groove Committee – I Want to Know”. One of Carl’s favorite DJ'ing themes is Classic House reminding him of those days!

The digital emergence has really made a difference for Carl. In 2008 Carl became IndySoul and started playing music at local parties including appearances at some Montreal most happening spots such as Globe, Club UN, Eclusiers, Lobby Bar, Pinq Taco to name a few. IndySoul's dedication to music and making people dance is all that matters to him. “No matter how you DJ and the tools you use to make your music, the vibe, the feeling that comes out of it is what really matters”.

IndySoul is also known for his quality releases. His early 2011 release on Chic Shine Records “The Story of Esperanza” was among Beatport.com Deep House Top 100 for several weeks in a row. December 2011 was the release of IndySoul - My Life Ep on Starsrain Records via iTunes, Beatport and other online media stores out of which Salvation did extremely well and dropped by many Dj's around the globe. Many accolades were received for this achievement. Another Ep that reached top 20 Soulful House on Traxsource was his release called “I’m Done” with Singer/Songwriter/Performer/ Wayne Tennant on legendary Gene King’s label “Shines Records”. This past summer IndySoul worked with Tantra Zawadi, Dana Byrd on forthcoming Ep called “Change All Over Me” [Shines Records] along side Deep Xcape, Guerila Science, Jonny Montana and Kafele Bandele on the Remix Crew.
IndySoul couldn’t get enough of working with Tantra, another great release to be expected is the #101 release of legendary Gotta Keep Faith Records called “We Are The Stars”; tag-team along with Brooklyn artist and vocalist Aleijuan Afuraka. IndySoul is also working on a forthcoming release featuring talented Vocalist Nadine Navarre to be released prior WMC2013 on Shines Records.

IndySoul has also produced quality remixes for some of the best label in the House scene with one particular release expected to hit high on the charts on Foliage Records with Monocles & Slezz, Andy Compton Ft. Tantra-zawadi & Dana Byrd – Only Love and, in addition remixes on Do It Now, Shines, Starsrain and Marvalex Records

IndySoul has also produced quality remixes that are in every Dj’s play list on Thievery Corporation – Indra | Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence | Sade – I Couldn’t Love You More | Jazztronik – Dentro Mi Alma | Logic – The Warning and Manoo – Francois A. ft. Dyanna Fearon – Crying For Love.

House music is not only IndySoul’s virtue; A few other projects and responsibilities filling his time while being the Dj for L’Oreal’s hair product division “Matrix” and composing music for Movie Scores.

IndySoul at night and Carl during the day is also just the guy around the corner, father of 5 years old twins and working as a Vice-President Operations for a large Corporation!
