COUNTERCULTURE
Several months ago NiT GriT had a remix competition for this track. I didn't enter the competition but I downloaded the stems and here's what I came up with. And here's what I was thinking about while I worked on the track...
Babylon is an ancient Mesopotamian city, the remains of which are found in present-day Iraq, about 55 miles south of Baghdad. "Babylon" is often used in a modern context to describe the dominating and oppressive culture of empire, excess, war and greed. Currently the world's most powerful empire, The United States, wages one of its longest and most costly wars in Iraq. Isn't it ironical, dontcha think?
Samples used:
"Word, Sound, and Power, is a symbol of man. Seen? That is what we use amongst Babylon. We don’t use a stick, nor a sword, nor a gun" - OG Rastaman, "Stepping Razor, Red X: the Peter Tosh story"
"On and on and on in a Babylon..." - Soulfly, "Babylon"
