"[ibid.'s] work bears the mark of a budding audiophile- the spacious, loose production is often as much the focus as Mathews' nocturnal crooning. It gives his songs a strange, off-kilter feel as if getting a brief, fogged glimpse into the world of someone with very different eyes than you."-Radio Free Chicago
ibid. is the musical guise of one 22-year-old Portland native named Gabriel Mathews. ibid. lives in Los Angeles, and makes minimalist/maximalist, literary-but-not-wordy, generally dark yet hopeful rock music in the varying traditions of The National, Clinic, Pixies, Dodos, The Velvet Underground, and Wire. His first EP, Missive, was released in November 2010, followed by the India Ink EP in February 2011. In September 2011 he released his first LP, This Could Have Been A Warmth, featuring drum contributions from Minnesotan Zachariah “Bison” Levinger.
