I and I is one of the creative projects of multi-instrumentalist, artist, and gardener Adam Sarmiento. His latest release, "White Noise/Black Music," is a reflective dance record that blends post-everything with electronic earthiness and the kind of thoughtful, provocative lyrics that one doesn't always expect to accompany such movement-inducing grooves.
Following stints as drummer and writer with the New Tribe, the Pistol Arrows, and the Candles, Adam invested in some recording gear and set about experimenting with sounds and styles, eventually resurfacing with his debut record, "We Are," in hand. That album was suffused with energy and soul, and was something of a raw affair, but also elaborate and adorned with an assortment of synths, basses, guitars, vocal harmonies, and, or course, beats aplenty. Indeed, one of the many things that sets this guy apart from many other solo ventures is the complexity of the drum and percussion arrangements that undergird the songs. His second release, the 2006 EP "Music Computer Film," saw Adam following his exploratory muse on mostly instrumental material, crafting music that was both more sonically distinct and more refined, and, as the record's title suggests, more cinematic.
At present, I and I is taking the songs from the new record to the live setting. Check out the show listings for upcoming dates.
