For its 11th release, Hypercolour’s more cerebral offshoot HypeLTD turns to new breed talents Arkist and Komon. The former has appeared on the esteemed Apple Pips and Hotflush labels, whilst the latter has former released similarly minded fare as Komonazmuk on Hench, and also most recently Apple Pips with label head, Appleblim. Together on this two tracker for the first time, the duo explores a malleable blend of deep house and propulsive bass that oozes and soothes in equal measure.

‘Brookfield’ emerges from puddles of blissful ambient before stirring bass notes lift you up to a higher plane. There you are joined by loose drums and more melodic smearings, all the while that bassline continues to roam and rove with a very natural feel. It’s stirring both emotionally and physically, and is one of the most grown up and accomplished tracks to have come from Bristol in ages. Think Pépé Bradock jumping into bed with Vangelis here!

‘Kitchen Monks’ is just as unformulaic but is more outgoing – beautifully plummeting bass notes sound rich and real, whilst many other beguiling sonic details fill in the spaces left behind, from r&b vox to synthetic raindrops via clicking, engaging percussion. Bright and bold but infectious at the same time, this one sounds like little else out there, and even less like anything coming from the Bristol we think we all know.
