James 'Jamal' Mallard has been DJing as DJ Yayyay as the creator of the formerly Austin-based, now San Antonio-based Hype Headz crew since 2007. Yayyay's track Micro-Chips, a collaboration with producer Arms&Suites and Droplette, has been in heavy rotation worldwide both in the club and in various DJ mixes, and hit No. 2 on Juno Download's Electro Bestseller list since its November 2011 Freshmore release. A leading proponent of bass music as well as 'forward-thinking house music' in the U.S., Yayyay's increasingly sophisticated sets explore everything from bass music to Chicago house to juke/footwork to vogue/ballroom house and beyond. -Rodrigo Diaz
Established in 2007 by San Antonio, Texas-based emcee DJ Yayyay, the HYPEHEADZ crew of club music producers, emcees and visual artists has left an exciting and sometimes scandalous cultural imprint throughout Texas and Mexico in the form of club nights, house parties, art gallery performances and guerrilla DIY shows.
Two years in the making, this eclectic EP features three dark, intricately layered and genre-expanding original tracks produced by the elusive and mysterious bass commander Arms&Suites, juxtaposing musical influences ranging from Dirty South rap to future bass to 3ball to Chicago footwork. The EP's four remixes lend a heaping dose of forward-thinking ballroom and high energy club productions by Vjuan Allure (Mad Decent/Jeffrees) and #FEELINGS artists Ynfynyt Scroll, AiR DJ and Creepside.
HYPEHEADZ' music has been supported and played out by prominent producers and DJs such as DJ Rashad, Dubbel Dutch, L-Vis 1990, Brenmar, Massacooramaan, Cedaa, Prince William, Brenmar, Sines and HxdB. -Ben Aqua
