About

Michael McKeown is the founder and long standing resident of Hydroponic Music – one of the most respected collectives on the Northern Irish music scene. A versatile DJ who refuses to be pigeon holed – he is as likely to lash out Tech House and Electro Bass in one club, while firing an arsenal of Stax Soul, Rockabilly and Jamaican Dancehall in the next.

His adaptability behind the decks has led to a countless number of DJ performances in venues across Northern Ireland, in addition to appearances at the renowned Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Trans Festival and one off events such as Ian Brown’s official after party and the wrap party for Tom Hanks’ recent Hollywood blockbuster ‘City of Ember.’

Support slots have come thick and fast alongside the likes of Adam Freeland, Massive Attack, Richard Fearless (Death In Vegas), Asian Dub Foundation, Primal Scream, Howie B, Lo Fidelity Allstars, Andrew Weatherall, Afrika Bambaataa, Radioactiveman, David Holmes, DJ Hurricane (Beastie Boys), Dub Pistols, The Surgeon, Howard Marks, Blood & Fire Sound System, Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays), Alabama 3, and Adrian Sherwood to name a few.

Further afield, he has appeared in UK venues such as The Vaults (Edinburgh), Fortress (London), Temple Bar Music Centre (Dublin), Arts School (Glasgow) and The Nerve Centre (Derry).

More recently, his Reggae offshoot project – Hydroponic Hi-Fi – has been making waves showcasing a rollercoaster ride through all angles of reggae music.

“Michael McKeown’s way with the decks has ensured a loyal following that will happily venture to the edge of the city on a regular basis”
