Started as a London based club night, House Trained earned a reputation on the underground circuit thanks to a combination of cutting edge flyers and poster art, a loyal following of party revellers and its accompanying strapline "no shit on the floor"; in reference to an unwavering attitude towards its no nonsense music policy. Always on the look out for the next big DJ and small venue to inhibit, a series of parties next door to London's Fabric resulted in a guest appearance from Mylo, on the cusp of global stardom and a favourable Mixmag report followed, labelling House Trained "#1 top night in London". A small print run of t-shirts with the popular doggy logo emblazoned on the front led to an upsurge in requests from DJs everywhere, eager to pledge their allegiance to this underdog 'brand' which had sprouted from relative obscurity on nothing more than a shoestring budget.
A record label followed and flirtation with investment from a major led to a series of commercial releases from DJ Disciple, Denise Lopez and Wolfgang Gartner before its founder Phil Loraine took hold of the reins and set up independently. Next followed new mixes of 1990 northern classic "Hardcore Uproar", breathing new life into one of the most famous all time UK dance classics which was subsequently championed in festival sets worldwide by the likes of Grum and James Zabiela. Later accompanied by a new vocal version and a video shot in Manchester (the budget trashed almost entirely on drugs and alcohol) the track failed to make the radio 1 playlist, despite support from DJs everywhere and rave reviews in London Metro and Timeout.
In 2011, a chance meeting with Kryder in a nightclub led to the signing of 'K2' to the label. Heavily supported by everyone from Pete Tong, Kissy Sell Out and Judge Jules to the Swedish House Mafia, the track was signed on to Tiesto's Musical Freedom label, with House Trained striking a music management deal with the artist. Kryder's reputation has snowballed overnight and their madcap showmanship befits the unpredictability of the House Trained brand philosophy to perfection. Expect dwarves in mexican wrestling masks and dog walking girls on rollerskates in lingerie with stormtrooper helmets in abundance.
Most recent addition to the House Trained artist roster for 2012 is Steve Miller (Afterlife), the uncompromising master producer of quality chillout music. With more tracks than anyone else on the classic Café Del Mar series, his sumptuous tracks have featured on over 500 compilations worldwide. Also recording under the guise of Lux, he is the sunset phenomenon and principal purveyor of romantic and melancholic mood music. A former weekly resident on The Roof Terrace at Pacha, Ibiza - complementing Roger Sanchez in the main room on his Release Yourself nights - it is a privilege to be associated with such a reputable, talented artist with an immaculate track record for unparalleled quality.
