My great example of classical guitar, Frank Hiemenz, asked me to make things clearer.
I am Helmut Keller and I grew up in the mountains of Bavaria/Germany. When I was born, my first musical activity was yodeling ;-)
With 13 years I began studying the classical guitar and was very interested in bigband music, but could never play in a bigband, because I didn' find enough comusicians with the same particular liking of this kind of music.
So I played guitar or bass or drums in rockbands, dixieland bands and cover bands. In the age of 25 I started working as a sound engineer in studios and on live performances in Germany and Italy for about 20 years.
Now, since 1994 I'm living in San Martino, a small medieval village with 35 inhabitants in Tuscany/Italy.
Working in studios didn't leave me the necessary time to elaborate my guitar playing, so my musical skills petered out. When I retired 4 years ago, I came up to light this unsatisfied desire to make music again.
I reanimated my guitar, bought me the sequencer program Cubase and started with some simple songs. Then I got a little more encouraged and began searching for good sound libraries to make bigband music with a virtual bigband, which I called "San Martino Bigband". As a former sound engineer I'm quite familiar with the the sound and the touching and playing all kind of instruments, which helped me very much in modelling the sound of single instruments. It's kind of fiddling and quite a time consuming work but at the end I'm quite satisfied, when I found the right balance and transparency between all instruments. Once in a while some old musician friends are coming to visit me and I take the chance to track down the one or the other solo with them. That's a highligt for me.
Thanks for having read til here and for all your support and kind comments on my tracks.
