About
On December 3, 2010, Henry Duplex was officially declared missing. Months earlier, he had been in contact with a mysterious guy who claimed to work as a secret agent for beings from another solar system. The last of us who saw Henry, watched an unusual behavior on him (even for Henry, that always had a reputation of being eccentric). He believed to see messages on television, billboards and the Internet; all addressed to him. "Soon I will make a long journey. I will miss you all, but my decision is made," he used to tell us the last months before disappearing without a trace.
For all the people who knew him, Henry Duplex was an important person in our life. As a friend would point out once: "his soul was the most human." Henry was always honest and kind with everybody (friends or strangers). He was curious about life and wanted to know everything about reality itself (which led him to study such diverse fields that he could never commit to one). "I'm a nomad, not a sedentary. I'm happy that way", always replied when we advise him to settle down and focus on something.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, in their 40s he decided to move to Monterrey, México. This is the part of the story where I come in. When I was born, my parents decided to name this peculiar american as my godfather. He was the first one who taught me to play the keyboards.
In the autumn of 2009, as a birthday present, he decided to take me with him to enjoy the Morelia International Film Festival. There we met Alex Skratz, a German who participated with a short film in the competition of that year, and Boris Santos, a friend of Alex and native of Tel Aviv. Soon we began a friendship that extended beyond the festival, as it happened that apart from the cinema we share the same love for the music, which led us to dust off our instruments and jam together for several weeks. Boris and Alex finally had to return to their homes, but we stayed in touch through the Internet. Over time, Henry kept telling us that the three of us should continue "the band" and shape the ideas that we developed in our long improvisations. His enthusiasm was so contagious that we decided to try a long-distance collaboration. So we would be only a fictional band, but we consider it better than nothing (or in the words of Henry: "honesty in art is more important than perfection"). So this is the story of Henry and the origin of our band's names: "The Henry Duplex Experience", "Henry Duplex and the Low-Budget Ensemble" or just "Henry Duplex" to making it short. We consider our project as a tribute to him.
