Binaural sound.
A human being has two ears. By the differences of sound volume and arrival time at each ear, the brain can work out the direction from which the sound arrived. Binaural recording method works the same way: a mic is placed in each ear of a person. Sound recorded with these mics and listened later to with headphones sounds very much identical to the sound that the person did hear. It's the perfect surround sound, but only when listened to through headphones. More info in wikipedia.
