Pianist / composer Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) is set to return this Autumn with a striking new album, Foreign Landscapes, which is set for release on October 12th in the USA and October 25th everywhere else. Hauschka's third album for our130701 imprint sees the Dusseldorf-based artist making ambitious advances on his critically-acclaimed previous work. Stepping out from his established niche as a ‘prepared piano’ player, he boldly extends his repertoire with a rich orchestral score. Nine of the album’s twelve tracks feature a 12-piece string and wind ensemble from San Francisco’s Magik*Magik Orchestra, alongside Bertelmann’s own prepared piano. Dynamic, brimming with character and color, ‘Foreign Landscapes’ retains its author’s distinctive musical voice and leads the listener through a beautifully balanced collection, moving from delicate solo piano lyricism to a propulsive, robust minimalism. Now dark and intimate, now playful, now driving, the ensemble’s fleshed-out instrumentation enables Hauschka to bring his exuberant versatility to a vital new level.

Hauschka will be touring extensively in support of ‘Foreign Landscapes’, including a secret show at an intimate London venue, which will only be available to people who sign up to the Hauschka mailing list. This seated show will see Volker playing solo and will be very different from the Bush Hall show in London in November, where Volker will be joined by an ensemble to replicate the full color of the album.
