Starting from the 90’s we could say that the symbol of music has become a DJ and a turntable: The presence of electronic music has significantly transformed music itself, the performance and the familiar forms of entertainment.

These changes have also affected Hungary but the relation of electronic music and the traditional culture or rather the presentation of the the musicians, performers, DJ’s accomplishments has not yet reached the European level.
HAIRY RECORDS is based upon the cooperation of producers, DJs and promoters who have been playing an important role in the life of electronic music here in Hungary for many years and who see their own function as a part of the overall Hungarian culture and would also like to influence it.
HAIRY RECORDS is basically a creative workshop, music studio and booking agency with the target to possibly introduce foreign artists, twin workshops (labels) and trends in Hungary while ensuring native musicians the opportunity to release their music and perform at gigs.
The ars poetic of our event management, is in contrast to local practice, that our aim is not to give the opportunity to „famed” and “usual” performers for a second boom in Eastern Europe but to actually find and debut the most interesting, creative and innovating performers and styles.
We believe that the emphasis on newness and creativity arises from the art of electronic music, of which the main essences are fast changes, unknown technologies, sounds and the search for and implementation of different styles.

Our goal is to build up a kind of message or „brand” which gives a guarantee to our audience about the quality and newness of the creative audio and visual overall picture which HAIRY RECORDS creates from event to event.
At the same time we would like to change the electronic music event from its territorially based „gastronomy„ world into a musical and visual or rather into the art form of performativ expression (live-acts, vj projections) and integrate it into our local cultural life in the future.
It is observable in significant European countries that the somewhat from underground organized electronic music life is stage by stage becoming a part of the respective countries cultural export namely by precise stylistic indicators (UK break-beat, drum&bass, German minimal house and French new disco).
Hopefully HAIRY RECORDS’s studio, the label initiation will place Hungary’s music life on this map: the spread of the desktop computer technology in the music scene has created a not very selective potential firstly for writing music (practically anybody can have a home studio) secondly for releasing and sharing these and finally the music’s software logic makes it possible for other artists to rewrite these (remix).

HAIRY RECORDS’s next main activity will be to manage, organize and finance the cooperation between international and native artist and music.
We release the work of young and unknown Hungarian composers on vinyl and also via the internet and wish to support their career as an artist by inviting them to perform at our events and by international booking agents.
We have noticed a coherence between the new generation Hungarian motion picture industry’s cultural outbreak and that of electronic music. With the right experience, creativity and attitude, electronic music can awaken international attention with less funding than the movie business while the art itself is beyond any border and its popularity among the young audience is a fact.
