This track has a heavy samba feel with a pretty solid kick and loads of percussion. I wanted to make something that had a dancefloor groove but also fused Brazilian influences and Middle Eastern sounds....hence the batucada drums and sitar. Influenced by Thievery Corporation and early Compost Recs. stuff played by Rainer Truby.

@zzzzra: Thanks much, Alex. I choose the accompanying graphic because it sounds like there is a voice in there that says "omen" (even though there are no spoken vocals in the entire song). Spooky!

I think I know this guitar riff but can't put a name on it... "Pass the dutchie" maybe ?
-
@zzzzra: neither can i! but there are countless variations of this melody. the first time i heard it, it was played by a horn section on an old studio one rocksteady cut. i use it here as an homage to the masters...
-
@VUELO: Well that's quite an homage then, awesome dub !

Forthcoming on both an Another Night On Earth compilation CD and vinyl. Needs a bit of tidying up but hopefully you'll dig the vibe. It's a classic New York garage track from 1986 given a bit of an 'Arthur Baker like' dub treatment. Deep basement soul music for those sweaty 4am moments. x -

Many small farmers, especially those in the hills, have found the conditions too exacting and the financial rewards too small to go on growing bananas for export. For the island as a whole, exports averaged 173,000 tons a year in the 1960s. A further 40,000 tons a year were consumed in Jamaica it...
