Grooveboy is the creation of Dublin based DJ\Producers Karl Lambert and Tony Pugh in collaboration with one of Dublin’s finest Soul vocalists, Antoinette Dunleavy. Their combined passion for House and Disco compelled them to create their own brand of Deep Groovy House Music with a uniquely Irish flavour. The Grooveboy sound is both familiar and unique and was formed by years of listening to and playing House Music in all its many wonderful and beautiful guises. It is a combination of beach bar funkiness and dance floor accessibility. Grooveboy wear their influences on the outside having been inspired by American Producers such as Masters At Work and Miguel Migs to name but two and also by the new breed of European Producers like Jimpster, Ian Pooley and Irish Deep House icons Fish Go Deep.
Both Karl and Tony come to the party with a vast wealth of knowledge and experience having been involved in almost every aspect of the clubbing experience including Club Promotion, Record Shop Owner, Record Label Bosses and Karl currently owns and runs one of the internet’s fastest rising and most exciting underground Dance Music Radio Stations, Play FM Dublin. As DJ’s both Karl and Tony have performed at some of Dublin’s biggest and best loved clubs and events including Tripod, Mono, The POD and Rock legend U2s iconic club The Kitchen as well as in countries like Britain, Germany, Turkey, Greece, and Ibiza.
Antoinette has been writing and singing for as long as she’s been breathing (probably a slight exaggeration there but you get the idea). Antoinette decided in 2010 to take the plunge into music full time and since then has been one of the most in demand session vocalists on the Dublin scene having worked with Edwin James from Corrugated Tunnel, DJ Meme Brazil, Shane Robinson and The Control Freakz. She has been remixed by Rennie Foster, Fish Go Deep, Legowelt, Shane Robinson, and Jay Riordan.
Grooveboy started life as a Tech House act with releases on their own label Monad Music, Grooveboy – The Beginning and a remix of Gaudii – Debute and on Worldwide Exclusive Records a remix of Christian Paduraru – Your Material Body but after spending some fun filled time at The Southport Weekender and the SunceBeat festival in Croatia listening to the very best House and Funk from some of the worlds finest DJs including Dennis Ferrer, Kerri Chandler, Little Louie and Soul Dynamic, they decided that Grooveboy needed some Groove and so Karl and Tony retreated to the studio to redefine their sound and emerged bleary eyed a few weeks later with Deeper a three track Deep House EP which includes Deeper, Horizons and Alibi which featured the hauntingly soulful voice of Elenor Kenny. Following the success of Alibi, Karl and Tony decided Grooveboy needed a vocalist. Having been fans of her previous work they asked Antoinette to become a member of Grooveboy and retired to their secret hideaway to write some music, the result was “Ain’t gonna stop” and “Can’t get enough” two Soul drenched pieces of Deep Funky House both of which are due for release in 2012 on Open Bar Music and Ospina Digital respectively. Grooveboy are currently writing their debut album which should see the light of day in 2012. They are also busy rehearsing a live show which will be hitting the club and festival circuit in 2012.
