Self funded 21st Century Digital Music Label set up by Robin Allinson to release underground electronic music including but not restricted to: Breakcore; Electro, Techno, House, Garage; Breakbeat and general Dubbed out Bass music at any and all tempos.
Robins main collaborator to date has been Cut Master Chris, much of the sound design and sampling owes a massive debt to his work and creativity.
Other contributors so far are: Michael Bolton as Bolt On Beats! (Not the crooner), a mate from college days.
Robin records as Grimey Rob, Scientifical and DJ Crazy 8.
Some background? Mad about music from day dot. Influences are far and wide but broadly : Funk; Break Beat; Acid House (A Guy called Gerald etc); Detroit Techno; UK Producers like Casper Pound; 90's Hardcore Breakbeat / Rave music and massive gatherings like Castle Morton.
Got into DJ'ing (still use the same decks) around 1991, more for the buzz than money. I have always spent more on it that I got back. At the same time I made raw electronic sound tracks at college using Atari computers but it was 6 years before I studied Sound Design and Music Technology as well as general audio recording.
I started the label in 2006 as selling music to a 3rd party Record label seemed a bit old hat once the internet was in full swing.
Much of the music penned between 2000 and 2005 is inspired by the City I lived in at the time, London. The endless rows of rooftops outside my window, Suburbia. The sounds of the original Grimey City.
I have made two explicitly Anti War tracks. "The Attack Sound" and "Impact". Both made from the actual sounds of the War or Terror: A reporter, live on air at the Beslan Massacre, inside the firefight! The sound of the planes hitting the twin towers over compressed to monstrous proportions, Sound FX of Kamikaze planes diving at War ships from old movies. Real footage of US Soldiers in Helicopters murdering civilians like playing a remote control game video game. Propaganda film sound tracks. TV reports from Mainstream Media. Found sound and the Human voice. Public domain footage. The list is long.
Since 2005 I work a day job as a 44 Ton Articulated Truck Driver and have funded the label and modest improvemenets to the studio from that. I use pretty limited equipment. Mostly Sequential Circuits and Dave Smith Instruments devices and a computer.
2010 has brought an unwelcome diagnosis of the chronic pain condition Fybromyalgia which has left me Disabled by pain. Music is often a welcome distraction from the nagging pain as it stimulates the whole brain and I notice the pain less. I don't DJ these days but do post mixes on http://www.mixcloud.com/grimeycitymusic/ from time to time.
If you like the music, Download it, Twitter it, google+1 it, Facebook it, generally tell all your social network. I made the music to be heard and enjoyed. It was a compulsion not a money making exercise.
Peace
Rob
