Need a gift for a gifted musician?
Over the last year, New York has been blessed to welcome vocalist, mutli-instrumentalist, producer and bay area native “RAS MAJESTY” as one of it’s newest and talented artists. Born of Hawaiian, Columbian and Irish decent, MAJESTY was raised in the San Francisco bay area. As a child he traveled with his grandparents who toured as a Hawaiian Island band, thus introducing the young child to his love and diverse understanding of music.
MAJESTY found himself struggling and troubled as a teenager, but he allowed his love for music to show him a brighter path. Understanding the fundamentals of composition and sound engineering, MAJESTY put himself through college at Emeryville’s Expressions College of Digital Arts, which allowed him to start working as a sound Engineer at local bay area venues. While working on writing and composing original songs, he began networking with artists in the local hip hop and reggae scenes.
By 2007 MAJESTY formed the band “Hypnotic Vibrations”, mixing a range of classic down tempo reggae and upbeat funk rhythms to create a sound extremely rare in any scene in the bay area at that time. This fresh sound caught the attention of local promoters and artists which began landing Hypnotic Vibes shows all around the bay.
While being the brain and vocals behind Hypnotic, MAJESTY had the chance to perform with artists such as Tosh Marley Band, Jah Warrior Shelter, Sublime with Rome, Fully Fullwood, Jah Sun, Mystic Roots, Living legends, Native Elements, KRS-One, Hieroglyphics, Zion I, Bayonics and more. One of their noteworthy performances was to a sold out crowd at the legendary Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz.
MAJESTY also continued to work on side projects. By 2009, he began collaborating with a lot of hip hop artists such Zion I, Dead Prez and San Quinn. In 2010 he co-produced local rapper Ony Oz.’s “Stop Blindin’ Me’” album which featured an all star line up of hip hop artists from 2Pac’s Outlawz, Hieroglyphics, Smif N Wessun, San Quinn, Dead Prez and more.
At the height of his success, MAJESTY took a career changing course and moved to Brooklyn in February 2011. Leaving his fellow Hypnotic band mates behind, MAJESTY followed his heart to begin a new chapter on the East coast. Over the last 2 years he has settled in incredibly well, already starting the wave again; from doing shows as an acoustic act, Djing, and guest featuring on local tracks. And, recently a new band of musicians has been forming, and just beginning to touch various venues throughout the greater NYC area.
MAJESTY prides himself on being a diverse artist that can create a sound that embodies reggae, soul, funk, and hip hop. In 2013 he looks to focus more on his song writing as a solo artist while continuing to expand his east coast fan base. Look forward to more shows, love, and good music.
