Encased in a tiny Pacoima backhouse, Steve Dodd wrote songs that would eventually lead to Glowbird’s definitive sound. Dodd felt unfulfilled in California and was determined to leave for the opposite coast. During this crossroad, he befriended Ray Rosas, a guitarist and effects-guru, at a local non-profit they both worked at. The two began sharing musical ideas, past life experiences, and a yearning for authentic expression. A close friendship and creative partnership quickly developed, causing Dodd to reconsider his departure for the east. In a blurry Las Vegas tiki bar, Dodd and Rosas drafted their vision of what Glowbird would eventually become: introspective rock infused with lush guitar textures and vocal harmonies. Glowbird spent the next year composing; Dodd crafted a batch of catchy melodies, while Rosas developed his own palette of moods and shades. In the fall of 2011 they recruited Alec Golya, a friend and musical collaborator of Rosas, on bass and began rehearsing and recording their first demo. After sifting through a few drummers Glowbird finally found the right element they needed in Christian Johnson, a New Jersey-bred drummer and electronic instrumentalist. Glowbird is based in LA’s San Fernando Valley and that sums it up.
