About
Gino Latino
It was the purchase of Paul Mccartney's "Frog Chorus" by Gino's Mum in the early 80's that kick started his interest in music as a child growing up in the ghetto of East Dublin.
Siphoning the tastes of his father and uncles' old country music cassettes and LP's and being increasingly exposed to Irish polka and jigs, his love for repetitive and hypnotic dancing music was born. It is fair to say that Gino grew up in quite a musical family.
It was a chance family move to London in the late 80's when Gino discovered "Now that's What I call Music 12" featuring such house classics as "S-Express - Theme from" and "Salt and Peppa - Push it". Gino would eventually turn the radio dial until he found the fledgling pirate station "Kiss FM". Taking in all of the underground house hits of the day.
Gino's parents purchased a ZX Spectrum +2 computer one fateful Christmas, and this opened up a world of music making using the built in programming language "BASIC" and the sophisticated "PLAY" command which allowed for up to 3 notes to be played at once.
As a teenager, Gino relocated to Plymouth where he frequented the seminal club "The Warehouse". In 1995, DJ's like Sasha and Digweed introduced the thrall to epic house and Danny Rampling was a frequent visitor. Later, releases by Orbital, Daft Punk, Etienne De Crecy, Chemical Brothers, Lionrock, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Nine Inch Nails, Underworld, Leftfield etc further cemented Gino's interest in dance music.
It was 2004 when Gino and friends created an event called Magik Bullet, which was a cocktail of house and breaks. For 5 years it was one of the most successful nights in the South West and is looked back on with fondness.
Fast forwarding to 2011 and after a long break from producing unreleased music, Gino decided to use his musical heritage to make house. And so it begins......
