About
Skiddle.com/Connected DJs Resident DJ of the Year 2010/11
Ginny started DJing in 2003 after a trip to Ibiza. She had always loved house music, but wanted to be able to give other people that feeling that she gets as a clubber...the excitement, energy and fun.
After teaching herself the basics on cheap belt-drive turntables, Ginny enrolled on a DJ course at the Manchester MIDI School which gave her the confidence she needed to play in public. Ginny started out with a residency in a local bar and soon progressed onto playing in nightclubs around the UK. Over the last few years she has DJ'd alongside many big names at events such as The Warehouse Project (Manchester) including; Pete Tong, Riva Starr, Evil Nine, Carl Craig & The Plump DJs, as well as being sole warm up DJ for Yousef and James Lavelle at more intimate gigs. She has also played bars and clubs in Ibiza, returning to the Island that made her want to get out there and DJ in the first place! Ginny loves playing festivals and has played at Beatherder, Solfest, Ravenstonedale and more. Ginny is also a regular at The Wickerman Festival in Scotland and warmed up for Steve Lawler in 2012.
Ginny won two exciting competitions in 2010. A remix competition in association with www.trackitdown.net and Prime Loops, saw her track "Break the Habit" win from hundreds of entries, bagging her tons of prizes. Only a month after this, Ginny won the "Connected DJs/Skiddle Resident DJ of the Year" competition, after playing the final at The Wickerman Festival. Included in her prizes were sessions with Ant Brooks, Sonny Wharton, and Connected DJs (DJ Agency).
Ginny's tracks are getting attention from the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Pete Tong, and Nick Warren. She was particularly excited when Danny Rampling played her track whilst watching him DJ in an Ibizan club. You can listen to her tracks here on Soundcloud. She has releases on Axis Trax, DGN Recordings, Beat Rude Records, Endemic Digital and Stripped Recordings. Find her tracks on Beatport here:http://www.beatport.com/search?query=ginny+koppenhol.
Ginny's has also been involved in hosting her own radio show over the last few years, most recently on Ideal Clubworld Radio. She is taking a break from radio at the moment, but you can still listen again here: IDEALCLUBWORLD.COM. To "watch again", just search for "Ginny's Tonic" in YouTube. Ginny also recently interviewed Hacienda Legend, Graeme Park for the station showing that her skills don't stop at simply playing the music (watch again here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUqcLGMI7sQ).
She has also promoted her own nights, working with Josh Parkinson (Stylus) to bring quality house and techno to Lancaster, showcasing both local talent and introducing DJs from further afield.
Ginny loves to DJ because "I love house music, and I love to share the music I love with as many people as possible! Simple as that."
