LATEST NEWS: Georgia Murray has just been named one of the Top 20 artists in the 2012 Peak Performance Project! The Peak Performance Project is BC's most coveted music competition with over 400 submissions from the best up and coming bands and artists from across BC. Previous to that, Georgia was chosen as one of Canada's top 8 bands competing for $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music on CBC's nationally televised show, Cover Me Canada. Georgia also just won the "Fan Favourite" award at the 2011 Times Colonist Music Awards and was named "Favourite Urban/R&B Artist" at Monday Magazine's "M Awards". Georgia has also been nominated for "Urban Recording of the Year" at this years Western Canadian Music Awards for her Just a Dream EP (winners are yet to be announced).
Only a heart hungrier than a black hole can navigate utterly random phenomena, like performing with the Canadian Tenors one night and opening for Talib Kweli the next. Singer/songwriter Georgia Murray lives for this and her music and determination have gained the respect of another captain-on-a-mission. "I can tell you that Georgia Murray's songs and melodies put a smile on my face," William Shatner said. "She writes her own music and her passion for her craft comes out oh so well."
Georgia may have grown up at her parents' remote fishing lodge in northern BC, but her sights were set higher than sea level. After spontaneously belting out a Little Mermaid tune to their diners at age 3, Georgia became the lodge's feature performer. Blast ahead. Georgia got a major break from one lodge patron, TV writer/producer David E. Kelley who wrote a part for her as a lounge singer into his show, Boston Legal.
The randomventure continues, opening for artists like KRS One, Warren G, KOS, Shad, Atmosphere and Jurassic 5, privately performing for Warren Buffett, earning credit for a single by Korea's biggest star, which copied Georgia's original song note-for-note and topped Korea's charts. You might've even seen her singing anthems at arenas like Madison Square Gardens for NHL and NBA teams.
Georgia's flown through all of Victoria and Vancouver's best venues, with a sound labeled "alternative" and "dark soul," mixing Gnarls Barkley, Portishead and Adele. Live performance is where Georgia blows minds. Her voice and presence commands the focus of every eye in the room. She's blipped on many radars, like The Province's "Monthly Musical Pick" twice in six months, and Entertainment Tonight called her "Canada's own singing sensation."
And another exciting trek begins, Georgia's currently recording material with her creative partner, D Whiz and Grammy winning producer Chin Injet (Eminem, 50 Cent), and has recently worked with Juno winning producer Gavin Brown (Metric, Billy Talent) and Ryan Kondrat (Broken Social Scene, Shad).
