    Remixes can, by definition be a little bit rude. You take a track, remove much of someone else's hard work and change it to how you think it probably should have sounded. When the lovely people from Bury St.Edmunds' finest band, The Soft invited us to remix one of their tracks we were especially mindful of this.

    We had just taken delivery of a few new (well, old) bits of equipment including a Korg drum machine from the 1960s and a minimoog, which together with a few of our other bits of gear that we had to hand at the time, a Korg MicroPreset, Mellotron, Black Beauty side drum and Fender bass instantly reminded us of the sound of one of our favourite bands from the past. The soulful, gentle vocal of The Soft's original track "Half Breath" could fit beautifully into something that we'd long wanted to create, so here it is, another one of our now famous 'Spot the Influence' tracks. We've left Bury behind, and driven the Sundae Club Commer Ice-Cream van up the A1(M) and M6 to the North-West, and back in time to around 1983. The soulfulness has been traded for a little bit of lightness - something that the band who have influenced us often managed, probably without really wanting to...
