About

Gene Hoffmann has been a passionate and active part of the world techno fraternity since the mid 90’s. He is best known for his dynamic multichannel DJ sets that blend a broad range of techno, enticing both the mind and feet. He's also noted by some for his oddball sense of humor and for his infectious enthusiasm for techno music in general.

Since 1997 Gene has given his all as a techno DJ and occasional underground promoter. He has shared the stage with international techno heavyweights including Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater / Planetary Assault Systems, Speedy J, The Advent, Joel Mull, Oliver Ho, Green Velvet, Samuel L Session, Slam, Sven Vath, Magda, Mike Humphries, Carl Cox, Ben Sims and DJ Misjah, as well as countless mainstream dance acts including The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method and The Prodigy. He has played on invitation at renowned Hardware, Earth Frequency Festival, Enchanted, Two Tribes, Earthcore, Sunshine People, Digital Music Festival, Future and Totem events, and at countless underground parties and club nights. He has regularly travelled across Australia, Asia and Europe to play, and was a regular act on local Melbourne lineups until his decision to take an extended break in 2006.

After a three year hiatus Gene returned in 2009 with recharged batteries, a new workflow and renewed vigor. He's a passionate controllerist and a music gear junkie, and has been since digital DJing was in its infancy. After learning his trade on turntables for the best part of a decade he progressed on to Final Scratch in 2004. His current workflow includes Traktor Scratch Pro 2, an Allen & Heath Xone DX, an A&H Xone K2 and Native Instruments Maschine.

Alongside his great mate Matt Van Diemen, Gene is a member of the #1 Techno Boy Band in the Universe - JESUS HORSE. He lives in the Australian bush outside of Melbourne with his wife and three kids, and loves nothing more than mixing at home to his family and select mates in his studio. He doesn't seek out weekly gigs anymore, but feels very privileged to be invited to play occasional good quality local, interstate and international techno events, and to share his music to the greater techno community via regular podcast appearances and Soundcloud uploads.
