HERE'S MY BIOGRAPHY WRITTEN BY JON BROWN JMPBR - Proffesional Journalist, broadcaster, promoter and Publicist
With a powerful voice that would melt even the hardest of hearts, Singer, Songwriter & Performer Gemma Macleod is an artist that naturally brings exceptional vocal talent to the main stage.
After a chance performance for fun at a Karaoke Party for her 14th Birthday, Gemma's voice clearly stood out from the rest and it was here that her journey would begin and she would be encouraged to maintain her talent in the coming years. Starting off just two years later professionally, Gemma would cut her performance teeth on a number of shows all over her native Devon performing covers for a wide range of occasions in a varied number of venues singing to hundreds at any one time. At just 16, she was already covering huge hits from all of the major recording divas such as Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston to crowds all over and was brilliantly received; a feat that would continue well past her 18th birthday as she took on the role of entertaining full time upon the club stages of Ayai Napa where she would stay for six months before returning home to sing on regular slots as a performing artist warming up for acts in Leicester on the Cabaret circuit, one of which including British national treasure Joe Pasquale.
A natural and professional competitor, Gemma has also won a number of nationwide talent competitions before breaking into recording with electronic music artists. She entered a local competition in Brixham, which saw her not only beat the local talent, but the regional and no less the entire national competition too, winning the grand prize and it would be this occasion that would mark the beginning of Gemma's journey into underground music stardom. As fate would have it, a recording of the entire event including Gemma's glorious win over her competitors would catch the eye of one of the underground UK hardcore rave scenes most inspirational MC'ing talents. Well known and well respected rave era hero MC Livelee would be the one to see it and called Gemma up to encourage her to push herself for recording work within this already strong scene that had been prominently successful for over twenty years and counting.
Having already been a fan of said community and dance music in general, Gemma began pushing portfolios and demos around to up and coming producers within all of the realms of electronic music to see what sort of opportunities were available.
It would be here that was she connected to producer Alan Hinton who would set about recording a number of tracks with Gemma. Their first track 'Romeo' would solidify Gemma's interest in being a recording artist within the dance music spectrum. Together, Alan and Gemma produced a number of tracks which Alan then leaked online in order to gain exposure, leading to somewhat of an explosion in popularity within a then brimming donk scene. Live PA's followed and Gemma was once more touring the UK's club stages, only this time, it was squarely in the spotlight of the rave scene, a place Gemma would come to call home as both recording and performing artist.
Gemma followed this up with Alan producing a track for Ultrabeat legend Chris Henry. The track quickly got picked up by Clubland album head quarters AATW and got the Micky Modelle remix treatment. The winning combination of Hinton and Macleod was then continued with a house track this time, 'Ain't Your Sweet Thing' which was immediately signed by Italian dance giants OXYD Records, adding yet more range to Gemma's diversity as a vocal artist.
Soon after this Alan and Gemma would produce yet another relative hit, although this time, break through UK hardcore producer Defekt would craft a remix that translated well into the hardcore rave scene's massive platform. The track 'Broken Dreams' courtesy of a Defekt remix would see Gemma showcased officially to the hardcore movement and the step that would push her further into another avenue of entertainment.
A string of massive UK hardcore hit singles would follow as would a period of great creativity and originality for Gemma as she began writing her own lyrics on top of already performing those provided by some of the talented producers she was already working with. Combining writing, performing and singing talent as one, Gemma then embarked on a three year journey that would yield some massive anthems including 'Warrior' (with Energy Syndicate, for Andy Whitby's 'AWsum Bootlegs' album), the aforementioned 'Broken Dreams' (with Alan Aztec for the Original Hardcore label), 'Redemption' (also with Alan Aztec for the Original Hardcore label), 'Michelle (Na Na Na)' (with Hyperforce & Wiggi for the GTYM Records label), 'There For You' (with Alan Aztec for Original Hardcore, which also received a Defekt and Stu Infinity remix), two tracks with Outforce & Age O for Fasttrack Reloaded 'Be True' and 'Runway'; 'Be With You' (with Gisbo, for In Your Head Records), 'Music Takes Control' (with Eufeion and Mr Gee for Kandie Rush's Krush Records), 'End Of The World' (with Flawless for In Your Head Records), 'Take Me Away' (with Farker for Flammable Hardcore), 'With You' (with Gisbo and Tim Jones for In Your Head Records), 'No Reason' (with Flawless for In Your Head Records), 'Flying (Wings Of Love)' (with Eufeion & Patch for Sc@r's Scarred Digital label), 'Calling Out Your Name' (with Gisbo & Vortexa for In Your Head Records), 'Set You Free' (with Ganar for Make Some Noise Records), 'Destiny' (with Gisbo & Burn for Scarred Digital), 'Tearin Me Up' (with Eufeion), 'Darkness Falls' (also with Eufeion, in tribute to his late Mother for Breeze's Futureworld Records) and 'Me Now' (with Ramos, MOB & Protocol for RSR Recordings).
Not one to rest on her laurels, Gemma continues to write new songs daily and is currently in the processes of working on a series of future hits for a number of UK hardcore's most celebrated producers; this comes after the already mentioned number of live PA's in which Gemma clearly thrives upon a live stage post memorable performances at huge branded events on the main stage for such industry leaders as HTID (with Sc@r), Hardcore Heaven (also with Sc@r) and Adrenaline Stompers with undoubtedly further big branded performances set for 2013 and beyond.
Writer, vocalist, singer, performing artist or multi-talented recording act; whichever title you wish to associate with Gemma, she fits them all perfectly with a combination of passion, heart, determination, drive, originality, professionalism and above all, an outstanding voice that far exceeds that of any bar set by the norm. With an already impressive number of chart smashing vocal tracks on her Discography and an integral amount of live, breathtaking performances amongst her repertoire in a flexible and diverse range of styles and musical genres, Gemma Macleod is a vocal artist that is very much so the answer to any future dance floor slammer needing a vocal or any live event Promoter really looking for that extra wow factor in a vocal act. Be sure then, her work is on your agenda this year, you'll not regret it.
