Dusted off this breakbeat mix for a road trip this past weekend and it brought back memories of the amazing rave on a hill in the trees outside Eugene Oregon in 1999. Thank you. Thank you.

      Gavin,

Using Napster back in 2000 to find unheard live music libraries... was amazing. And it was a breeze. All things must end... Granted it was a free for all. Kinda messed up. So, as any twenty something (who hadn't struggled to make his way in life with art yet) would do... I bought a mini disc player. This was a day before heading into the hospital for two weeks of solid bed rest. I couldn't sit up or anything. Not fun. It's a Long story. SO, My plan was to buy as many MDs as I could afford and download as much music as I could. Of all the recordings, the live sets were my ultimate finds. I kinda knew this right away, but as the years passed and I saw the studio albums I passed up recording off Napster up for sale here, there & eventually iTunes... I realized how lucky I was to have had such access, so early in my love affair with electronic & funk music. Well, I treasured the blue disc containing this set. I too occasionally pulled out this set from a closet, popped it in the trusty Sony MZ-R70 & listened to this and dozens of other live recordings.

Well I just got back from four months on tour, and had a real need to connect with home. So, I pulled some MDs, a male to male 3.5mm cord and the player...then jumped on my bike for a good ride around town. Well, in the end I didn't have time to give it a much anticipated listen or transfer it to my MacBook and in turn my iPhone. My friends intercepted me to hang out and catch up. Over a week later, the player, discs & cable were still in my bag. So, I grabbed a frappacino @ St*rbucks & got the "silver relic" hooked up. And with complete and totally disbelief, the works BLANKDISC blinked in my face. It took a good minute or two to accept. But then I'd try again. I knew how these things work. It was GONE.

I've played the mix for friends, when I had a little shin-dig and needed music but had no room for PA or tables. And I never came across anyone who: 1) didn't love your mix. 2) had ever heard it before. Lest I make this obvious, the accidentally erased discs was steadily ruining my day (ten minutes of total confusion. I don't do stuff like this?! I thought.) Better yet, I'm in control of "my now". The moment is of my creation, and I was holding up pretty good not turning inside out. But I was starting to grumble in public... to myself! Go figure?! Twenty minutes passed and there I was looking up Data Recovery Services... in the UK, Australia, and NYC. There I was starting to think about buying a console and downloading software to try a recreate the table of contents & run a TOC hack?! And. Then. I just let it go... for the 12th time.

It hit me. When I sat still. I Googled: In A Tent On A Hill In A Forest. (That's how I wrote it on the disc 10+ years ago?) Low and behold, BOOOOOOMmmmmm!! Gavin Hardkiss himself via SoundCloud to the rescue. It made perfect sense, you made the original. Why wouldn't you be the one to hook up another copy. "Download?" Yes, please.

I know this was creepy-weirdo-"OKAY-BYE" long and all. But it's a story, that you had to hear. Because. Well, you know your music reached, reaches & will continue TO reach people... in ways beyond your wildest comprehension. For this I thank you, Kind Sir.

      With much appreciation...
