frid and frid studio was formed in 2008 by the two brothers karl and pär frid. they have since composed music and created various sounds together. even though they were brought up together they soon took different paths within the creative world of music. years later and with experiences richer they teamed up to bring their different knowledges together.
pär, from the beginning a talented piano player took off to study composition in the gothenburg conservatory of music and then to the conservatoire national superieur de musique et danse de paris as well as the prestigious audio research institute ircam in paris.
he is today considered as one of the most promising and sought after contemporary composers of his generation in europe, with a personal style combining classical instruments with new technology. he has written music for all types of constellations within the classical area as well as creating various new media art works. in 2010 his ensemble work déjá-vu, over and over again was awarded with a swedish grammy award for best classical record together with the sonanza ensemble. for the moment he is working on several commissions for ensembles and constellations in europe and the united states.
karl studied classical music at the royal college of music in london, before making a u-turn. he then went to cuba to study afro-cuban music at the cnsea in havana. after this he also studied a year at skurups folkhögskola in the south of sweden before finishing his studies in afro-american music at the royal college of music in stockholm. since then he has mainly worked as a freelance musician, arranger and composer. his vast knowledge in music ranges from classical and jazz music to latin american and popular music.
he has played with groups and artists such as koop, calle real, sternfall, maia hirasawa, ahmadu jah highlife orchestra, hoffmaestro & chraa, vincent, bob hanson, eva dahlgren, louise hoffsten, pauline, jasmine kara, calixto oviedo, marit bergman, rasmus faber.
