About
FREYA [Unstable Sounds / Interview / Universal Dance Records]
Deep, dark and twisted! A self confessed tune addict and massive fan of dark driving basslines, haunting twisted melodies and barreling percussive flavours, this technically solid mixer combines attitude with clever sequencing and dynamics – regardless of ‘genre’ or style. Favouring techno, progressive, minimal and psytrance sounds, one thing is for certain when Freya jumps behind the decks – expect the unexpected!
“Freya’s set was full of highs, lows and some awesome sweeps mixing up a fine selection of deep techno and explosive progressive. Having never been a huge fan of anything prog or techy for that matter, my fence-sitting days were over. Freya dropped tracks smoothly and frazzled some punters...they call this underground for a reason”
– ITM, Vietnow
Born into a musical family, it was inevitable that Freya (aka Krissie Zibell) would end up in the music industry. After studying classical piano, singing and music theory from a young age, she moved on to study musical theatre at University before being seduced by the intoxicating beats of electronic music.
Since making her DJ debut in London in 2007, Freya has firmly stamped her mark on the underground scene – both locally and internationally, as a DJ, host and promoter. With performances in the UK, Vietnam and New Zealand, Freya continues to feature at major underground events and festivals all over Australia [Earthcore, Southern Oracle, Interview, Unstable Sounds] alongside some of her favourite DJ’s and producers including: Fergie, Erphun, D.A.V.E the Drummer, Quantize, Astrix, John 00 Fleming, Slam, Protoculture, D-Sens, Fatali, Chris Fortier and Lee Coombs.
With a natural ear and flare for music, it was only a matter of time before Freya turned her talents to production. This year sees her experimenting with original material incorporating fresh sounds and production techniques, developing and building new concepts and events, all the while continuing to annihilate dance floors with her distinguishable style and sound; making Freya one of the most exciting DJ’s circuiting the underground.
"Freya brings a devious presence to the stage, not just with her energy, excitement and enthusiasm, but with her unrelenting deep, driving and delicious beats…bringing the crowd to their knees in worship with every appearance!"
