Choose Your Boots is a summing up of a large part of my widespread activities as a musician for the past 20 years. For me the result not only reaches into the past but also into the future.
The title is a rhyme on the Charles Mingus album title “Blues and Roots”, and this
music is a kind of return, after many years in the “Scandinavian jazz-land”, to my American jazz roots, and a kind of homage to one of my great idols, Charles Mingus.
I tried to create some of the same blood, sweat and tears feeling as in his music.
For the first time I build all the music around grooves and bass lines. I would fool around with my bass, change is tuning, and found a couple of nice bass-grooves. Then I recorded them, and listened to them, while jamming at the piano or with my saxophone.
