Francesco “Fuzz” Brasini, guitarist and sound researcher, has been working in the musical world since the end of the 80’s, exploring different musical genres and instruments. His desire to search for his own personal sound is at the base of his interest in sound experimentation. This desire has led him to delve deeper into the tecnical and maufacturing characteristics of musical instruments to the point of making by hand a series of prototypes of guitars, basses, valve-amplifiers and analog effects. His current research is based on the creation of compositional structures obtained from the sums of tones and overtones produced by the strings of electric guitars and the feedback generated by amplification systems. Sevenguitars and Strings resonance, are his latest "solo" works, just taking its cue from this concept. Since 2007 he has been collaborating with ZAPRUDERfilmmakersgroup, research group on moving images, for the creation of films and installations’ soundtracks (Daimon, Pletora, Cock-Crow, Fault, All inclusive, Joule), as well as of musical projects (CRIPTOFONIA and S-WING). He has also collaborated with Luciano Maggiore, Pietro Riparbelli and Dario Neri experimenting the interaction between different instruments and approaches.His latest works have been released by Boring Machines and Radical Matters edition Labels.
Sevenguitars is a project born from the idea of interaction between sound and space. The protagonists of the project are seven guitars, apparently identical but technically studied to obtain distinctive features: the seven instruments have been designed and hand-built with tonal chambers inside the solid body that, interacting with the string’s harmonic vibrations, create different sonic effects. Every guitar is connected to a valve-amplifier every of whitch is equipped with distinctive speakers and different power. The amps are used at the maximum volume and tone bringing a feedback effect with the guitars: the strings go in auto-oscillation creating different harmonics, depending from the instrument and the tuning, and reacting with the acoustics features of the performative environment. The musician lose, therefore, the role of executor becoming only the creator of a process open to unpredictable results and closely related to the contest of performance. Every place, every contest, becomes an important variable able to influence the result: the sound is, therefore, linked to the temporal dimension, to whitch music is traditionally associated, as well as to the spatial dimension.
The strings of the musical instruments resonate with a fundamental frequency and creates overtones, multiples of the fundamental frequency. This project arise from the exploitation of these armonics. Following the principle of scientific "C" 256hz, that allow to increase the number of overtones, the sum of this frequencies creates a composition inside the single note.
