what will really happen in 5 days????? (111 posts) Back to the forum "Announcements"

  • Jay Borkas

i´ve read the blog and understand that soundcloud open their holy doors next friday for the public! but this was all they sayed! but what really happens in 5 days and what does this mean for us artists? will the pro-accounts then available and how much cost it?are their new features for all of us? is soundcloud then still save or will "bad" guys then just happy to have a new site on the internet where they have the chance to rip music (and even in good quality) from great artists? can non-artists also join soundcloud? you see their are alot of questions in my crazy brain so it will be great if the soundcloud-warriors give some more facts for this!
or what think the artists about that day? it will be great to hear your statements about it!

    best regards
    jay

Shit you are takin' the words right out of my mouth man... what is upppp

  • gottolovehouse

    Soudcloud is open for public.

  • tracerrecords

it's not really open for public, you need to be invited :)

Actually I think it would be bad if soundcloud would go public..

  • Jay Borkas

@tracer records: yeah you´re right i´m also think so! i really liked the way soundcloud was working in the last months! but we will see how it grow in the future!

  • TerraLogica Recordings

I hope it stays like it is ..it is crowded enough i guess

  • gottolovehouse

    I think public is great!

  • Alluvia

Public, to me, means anyone's invited. It would be nice if this was clearer, but I guess it will be on Friday.

I'm new on here, still trying to find my way around, but I like this place for the networking and collaboration potential, and getting honest (hopefully!) opinions from other musicians. I think there's plenty of places that exist that can be used to build a fan base, which is the only benefit I can see to letting anyone join, so why not keep it more for the musical types? But, at the same time, what about potentially talented folks who don't get an invite??

  • zentex

for a the social networks we already have the myspace-facebook-hi-5 bullsht, the world don't need another one. this should be kept for musicians, imo.

  • Qbical

I really don't see a problem with opening up the soundcloud. All the features on this site are focussed mostly on people producing music. So what's the appeal for people that don't produce music to join this site?
The only reason I see is so they can listen/download tracks by there favorite artists via the neat SoundCloud player, but we can all embed the player on other sites to satisfy that need, so I'm not worried this site will be overrun non-musicians.

I imagine that people won't need to join Soundcloud in order to listen/download tracks, however they might sign up in order to leave comments. I guess we'll see on Friday how it actually works :-)

I'm personally in two minds. If it remained closed I would feel bad for people who couldn't get in. However I worry about opening it up, 'cause it could get overrun with people who use the site "the wrong way". It's already being treated as MySpace-like by some of the spam-followers and I'd hate to see it overrun with loads more people treating it like that. Then again, if that's the way it goes, then I guess that's just evolution! :-)

In the end, Friday will tell all, and we should probably trust the Soundcloud devs that they will keep it true to it's current spirit.

  • robodubai

The whole point is, that you can keep your stuff private if you want. Or make one track available and use that to create private colaborations
right? It is a great tool for demoing the right people. Joe public wants Facetube.

  • soulphiction aka jackmate

if it goes public, you´d have to re-upload all your tracks in a shitty quality for bootleggin´reasons and keep all unreleased materials private-shared....
but wasn´t that a good reason for SC in the first place??

    let´s see friday...

  • Wendeburg

I agree. Everything will be alright. I always can prove being the composer of my own stuff. Besides that you can use the features round here to only let special people listen to your stuff. I am excited what the future will bring.

  • Jay Borkas

i hope its not bad for the soundcloud-warriors when i post this link here but i found something interesting...

    http://soundcloud.com/pro

    take a look...

maybe i will get the standard account, but i´m not sure yet.... not so much information.... need more....

  • tracerrecords

Hmm.. So there is no opportunity to keep a 'free' account?

    Weird.

  • LeCastleVania

Man thats going to be totally lame if they expect us to pay for an account. there are just way to many other free alternatives. i think this is a cool site and concept but its completely disposable for a user like me.

  • Alluvia

Maybe they'll wave fees for users who were on here before it's public???

Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but this fee business does suck. Is this what they're going to use to discourage "users" who might turn it into another MySpace? I think Qbical made a good point, there's not a lot here to draw someone who doesn't produce, other than listening, so I'm not really sure that the fee would be necessary.

Couldn't the site be made semi-public? Join by invite, with the features like download, follow, and comment, but allow public tracks to be public, anyone can listen. I know there's the player for that, but wouldn't that be a better solution than a fee?

If they start charging, I guess I'll be moving on. It's a great site, but not that great!

  • TerraLogica Recordings

So this is the catch boys and girls .....I ain't gonna pay ..See I fxxxg knew this was going to happen sooner or later

Quote ..If they start charging, I guess I'll be moving on. It's a great site, but not that great!

Yes i'll fuck off to, and i am sure my brother "The Observer will be gone to!!!

  • The Observer

Yep, what do you think little brother ;-)..

  • Mo Le Starre

Considering that they have yet to publicly announce to the existing userbase that they will have to start paying €9 a month in 3 days time, I suspect there will be a free option. The page only describes the various "pro" account plans.

That said, the limited features of the €9 account doesn't bode well for the features of any free accounts. And it's disappointing that they've let us get hooked on the service as it is now without warning that the free service would get significantly limited. I always was under the impression that the Pro accounts would bring something extra to the site, not be a means to take away something from the free accounts.

Again though, let's see what happens :-)

  • TerraLogica Recordings

We could have foreseen this of coarse ..nobody, no site i have ever seen or used with this kind of tools and support etc is out there for free Well like Mo said lets wait but i have a bad feeling about it

  • Alluvia

"And it's disappointing that they've let us get hooked on the service as it is now without warning that the free service would get significantly limited."

Don't you feel kind of used, especially those of you who have been here since it started? They hand you this beta site, ask you to do them the favor of trying it out and giving them feedback, so they can turn around and (potentially) charge you once it goes public and you're invested in it.

I guess that's business, like any good drug dealer will tell you. ;)

  • Jay Borkas

i think its a really difficult thing! for me the lite account is not enough and the standard account is a little bit to expensive for me but on the other side soundcloud is the best site and service i´ve seen since years!!! and of course soundcloud is a company and they have to make money to rent servers and pay the people who involved in this project! but i hope they make an free account where you can upload maybe 5 songs per month (with playtime-limitation, no dropbox), that alot more people have the chance to share this great community and post some cool music! but we will see on friday whats happen!
