THEY didn't really used to be kings, but Former Monarchs are
nonetheless determined to make a royal impression on crowds in Ireland
and the UK in 2011.
Formed in 2010 from the ashes of local cult acts Burn Us Both - pun
unintended - and The Avalanche Effect, Former Monarchs' influences
draw heavily from some great underground English acts of the 2000s
such as Reuben and Oceansize, as well as the sadly-defunct Danish trio
Their sound interweaves edgy guitar lines and a thumping rhythm
section, with strong emphasis on vocal and instrumental harmonies.
Having released their first songs online and won acclaim for their
early live shows during the first months of 2011, the band will
release their as-yet untitled first EP in May, with Irish and UK
tours to follow in swift succession.
