In transit this weekend between NY and MA while constructing this, so I didn't have everything I typically work with at my disposal. In a way, these limitations were refreshing, and really allowed me to get into Melton's piece (which, I must admit, was the first encounter I had with his music. Saddened it takes such a tragic experience to expose me to it, but there is a bittersweet beauty to that process as well. Happy to have it in my life now).
Used the iPad Garageband app, selected the "sliding tones" key board/synth, played around with cutoff, vol attack and reverb to achieve a sound I thought fitting for the piece I selected (which was quite purposeful for its percussive smoothness, rather than random).
I truly enjoyed playing along, and certainly hope I've added something here befitting of a tribute, yet also as a way to make Melton's work take on new life.
This track is a posthumous collaboration with Jeffrey Melton, aka Nofi, who passed away on March 30, 2013. It was recorded live in April 2013 atop a June 2012 Melton live recording.
