Five.oh.one is a quartet involved in writing, producing and performing gospel music for all generations. The four members of the group are:
Kelvin Bwamu
Mutua Matheka
Gibson Ndirangu and
Alex Wacira

The group was conceived in hall 5 room 1 in JKUAT in mid 2002 and hence the name five.oh.one. The group has since been able to write songs that have not only appealed to the young but the old as well due to our diversity in style.
We’ve explored various genres of music including rap (hip hop), reggae, rhythm and blues, accapella, swing and the local Kenyan flavor. Five oh one is a group focusing mainly on stage art, vocals and recording of music.

Since the inception of the group in 2002, quite a number of achievements have been made despite the various barriers the group has run into.
The group started as an acapella quintet with most if not all of its performances being in church services and small fellowships.
In the same year the group managed to enroll in the Safaricom star search competition with the specific intention of gaining as much exposure as possible. This being the first leap outside the cocoon, there was a lot of inexperience and naivety due to lack of exposure beforehand.
It’s here that the foundation of the group was formed as a result of the professional training we received from the many professionals that were a part of the whole production.
The end result was that we took the runner’s up position and began our journey.

God has not only been the major mastermind of our journey but he’s also the core of
five oh one’s existence. Thus far he has brought us and He is the very reason why we sing.
The songs written by the group are inspired, one, by life and its many ups and downs and, two, by the most high God Jesus Christ our savior.
