Max Farrar is an American producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and composer. Born in Los Angeles, California, Farrar is the son of Grammy-winning songwriter/producer, John Farrar ("Honestly Love You") and mother Pat Farrar, singer in Pat and Olivia, an Australian pop duo with Olivia Newton-John. Farrar is the younger brother of producer/songwriter, Maroon 5 touring multi-instrumentalist, and Phantom Planet bassist, Sam Farrar.
Although Farrar was not born at the piano, it did not take long for him to find one. After eight years of piano lessons in the classical persuasion, he took a temporary hiatus at age thirteen in order to sharpen his sense for playing by ear and delve deeper into composition. Fusing his love of music with his interest in computer programming, Farrar began to work with synthesizers and sequencing and began experimenting with music production (FL Studio, Reason, Pro Tools, and Logic). Farrar attended UCSB (B.S. Computer Science 2010) where he began producing/recording/co-writing with aspiring musicians Fred Russell, Pat Monahan, and Taylor Strand. In recent times, Farrar and Monahan have worked together on a number of music projects, licensing one of their songs for the 2013 Quiznos Superbowl Pre-Game commercial.
Farrar currently works as a freelance composer - in the commercial world, he has licensed songs to clients including Best Buy, Castrol, Kettle, and Zagat. For television, he has composed multiple albums of music for the television show, TMZ. Coinciding with his love of video games, Farrar has scored trailer music for Activision's Call Of Duty: Ghosts and Skylanders. He has also created orchestrations for pop artists Newton Faulkner and Sara Bareilles, along with co-writing "Weightless" with John Farrar, sung by Olivia Newton-John for the film, "A Few Best Men". Farrar's solo project is called "LUC!D", through which he is releasing both remixes and original tracks in various electronic genres.
