Korrupt 's review of Morrison (NZ) 's 'Obscurum':
"It's interesting to hear a water sample used right at the beginning of the track, it fits perfectly with the mysterious and creepy deep pads developing in the background. The Morrison boys use a great delay on some of the elements, especially the big growl coming in, leaving a real statement for the listener. It's great how you get sucked into the first drop – where all the elements come together and disappear, to shortly re-appear.
"The drop sounds nice, didn’t expect the keys to come in – adding something to the vibe hanging around – well played. The percussion sounds on point, there's a nice minimal approach used with clear elements involved – all with different patterning situated in the mix. The low-end sounds very ‘low’, with great control on it and it flows freely under the mix. The drum patterns are nicely developed, the kick sounding very poppy as it should in this particular mix, along with a nicely layered snare which comes forward in the mix nicely.
"The break sounds well produced, all the samples from the pass come around slowly like in the beginning of the track. The second drop is great with some new percussion implemented but still using a minimal approach. The background sounds fade in real nice and sound very mature – wicked sounds!
"The track comes to an end nicely, the spacious sounds attacking the mind once more. The dynamics of the background sounds are splendid, this really is a mental journey through the mind of both Morrison boys. An amazing track by these boys from New Zealand, keep an eye out for them in the future!"
I've been hearing good things from the Morrison guys over the past few months, so I was stoked to hear Olaf had sorted a FKOF free download with them. And what a track this is! It's definitely not what you expect - but it's definitely one of my favourites of theirs.
