Show His Glory
When a company wants to convince people to invest in their product they present the most compelling evidence they can to win us over. One of the most effective marketing ploys is the “Before and After” photo! When presented effectively there is no need to add the tag line: “Any Questions?” No, if you liked what you saw, and believed it was authentic, then the advertiser know they had a made a believer out of you!
God said to the prophet Isaiah in today’s first reading: “You are my servant, Israel, through whom I show my glory!” When God wants to make a compelling case for the salvation he offers, he too presents us to make his case! “Here is my servant! See them before they accepted me into their lives and look at them now!“ Any questions? But let’s be honest: Do we make a compelling case? Do you?
No, not always. This is especially true when we who have the cure, don’t take the medicine ourselves! When we who have the solution don’t apply it to our own lives; when we who have the ointment don’t administer it to our own wounds; when we have the inspired instructions don’t take the time to read the Word ourselves; when we who have his grace only receive it in vain; when we who have the Spirit refuse to follow the Spirit’s lead; when we who have the promises don’t believe in their authenticity; when we who have the truth don’t embrace its immutability; when we who have his power fail to rely on His strength; and we who have the Lord fail to trust him with all of our hearts!
Like a light hidden under a bushel basket, the Glory of God too often remains hidden within us. Everyone knows about the “before” picture of your life but are left in confusion when the “after” photo is indistinguishable from the first. The Good News is then reduced to just old news; happy talk with no corresponding reality. Today let us ask for the faith to let God rescue us from our old sinful ways so that our lives AFTER Christ may leave no doubt that He is a reliable product worthy of a life-time investment!
