Fat Phaze is the story of an artistic love at first sight, the encounter in 1998 of Olivier Huguenard and Emmanuel Plégat, two universes, the birth of a beautiful complicity.

Olivier, DJ for 18 years has a very intuitive approach of the music, he composes without knowing the music theory, and leans on his experience behind the decks. Emmanuel has a more academic profile of the discipline. After musical studies at the academy, he earned two diplomas in music theory then in piano.

Their inspiration and musical references are very varied. A common base, which they draw from the 80s (for they’re daft about the choruses), on funk and pop/rock tones but also on soundtracks and classical music.

Concretely Emmanuel theorizes about Olivier's musical practice. Their method of working is not regidly set even though Olivier often likes laying down the structure of the piece and Emmanuel, refining and finding the final arrangements.

This association relies on a genuine freedom, tools on which they trained themselves and together to speak the same technical language but above all on a collaboration focused on the qualities of each, far more stimulating. Over the years, this parisian duet which handles the mixture of genres as a second nature is developing an unmistakable style, ruled by rhythms and melodies.

At the same time, in 2001 they created Sismic Music, their own label, on which they release almost every track they produce.

As time goes by, Olivier and Emmanuel print their own sound identity but, for some years, they also became followers of the remixing movement ; other challenge, other stylistic composition which rests on an only principle : adapting the piece to suit their style keeping only the original voices.

It is not by any chance that major companies such as Universal, EMI and other famous producers invite them to collaborate.

If today Fat Phaze works well it is not only because the duet reached a real maturity, which fed their common project, but also because Olivier and Emmanuel remained honorable and faithful to their aim !

Fat Phaze where the meeting of its alter-ego is just an evidence.
